Technical Leadership | Engineering Management | Architecture | Software Development
Engineering and technical leadership at portfolio scale, built over 18+ years of carrying product lines from plan to release. The work has meant holding accountability across multiple geographies and helping stand up Centers of Excellence designed to outlast any single program. Teams have ranged from a handful of engineers to programs answering to hundreds of stakeholders, all of it grounded in real-time and distributed platforms and delivered at the pace fast-moving software calls for.
Authorised to work in Canada, India, North America and Europe. Contact neeraj.narang2011@gmail.com.
April 2022 - Present, Toronto, Canada. Product owner for a real-time positioning platform deployed at entertainment venues worldwide. Accountable from requirement to release, leading a cross-functional group spanning business, engineering and QA, and holding the platform to millions of events per second at sub-100ms latency. Grew the team and set the architectural standards it works to.
2021 - 2022, Toronto, Canada. Founded an independent venture offering technical consulting, software design and development, and carried it from a standing start to a signed engagement: a payment gateway modelling programme for FIS. Ran the commercial and technical sides at once, from scoping and terms through to architecture and working software.
November 2020 - November 2021, Gurugram, India. Architected and optimized two industrial gateway product lines for ProSoft Technology. Led a cross-functional group of 20+ engineering, product and support stakeholders, mentoring 12+ engineers directly, and established quality standards that became company-wide best practices.
June 2015 - October 2020, New Delhi, India. Architected mission-critical systems for TTX, Lutron Electronics and Assa Abloy across transportation, smart building and access control. Led cross-functional teams to deliver scalable IoT and cloud platforms, with work ranging from rail asset tracking to lighting control.
May 2011 - June 2015, Sydney, Australia. Designed and developed gaming solutions deployed globally by the world's largest gaming machine manufacturer. Led firmware development across multiple jurisdictions (USA, Macau, ANZ), ensuring compliance and reliability for high-stakes systems.
April 2010 - May 2011, New Delhi, India. Developed core protocol layers for a 3GPP telecom platform used by Nokia, handling millions of network handshakes. Built comprehensive test suites achieving 99%+ protocol validation coverage for production deployments.
Architected and led the technical strategy, development and feature roadmap for a distributed real-time tracking platform serving global entertainment venues. Designed high-performance systems processing millions of events daily at sub-100ms latency, enabling live position tracking of moving assets.
Delivered through SOM Consulting, an independent venture, for FIS. Modelled payment gateway behaviour in containerised environments so transaction flows could be exercised end to end without touching a live processing path.
Owned architecture, planning and delivery for the wired gateway line, leading a group of 20+ engineers, product and support stakeholders from feature definition through release and into field support.
Architected and delivered the cellular gateway line alongside the wired products, carrying the same ownership from planning and feature definition through release and field support.
Led technical architecture and design of a fleet distribution platform for North American freight rail, taking it from requirements through to delivery with a distributed engineering team.
Designed and delivered an automated validation rig for an access control manufacturer, replacing a manual test cycle that had engineers presenting credentials to readers by hand and watching for a result.
Technical lead for a new product line rather than an extension of an existing one, owning the architecture end to end and leading a group of engineers across embedded, cloud and mobile from first design through to launch.
Contributed to the hub and device integration work on a mainstream residential lighting range, the volume product line sitting beneath the professionally installed systems.
Designed and developed slot titles for the world's largest gaming machine manufacturer, shipping across regulated jurisdictions including the United States, Macau, Ontario and Australia, each with its own compliance regime.
Built the simulation harness that proves a game pays out the way its mathematical model says it will, the check that has to pass before a title can go in front of a regulator.
Built feature sets across a commercial 3GPP protocol stack licensed to Nokia, working the layers that negotiate a device onto the network rather than the applications running above them.
